With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we know everyone is anxious to wrap up work and school and head home for the holidays. We’re equally excited here at Greek U, and wanted to share a list of our favorite things about Thanksgiving break!
1. Getting a Break from School and Work
Who doesn’t love a little time off? No tests, homework, or work of any kind. Sounds like the life to us.
2. Reuniting with Family
Whether meeting up with the whole fam or spending the holiday with a friend, one of our favorite things about Thanksgiving is getting to spend it with the people you love! And we know that deep down, you miss that crazy family of yours.
I’m sure all of us could use a break from busy college life, so get ready to kick back and be chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool. It’ll give you a chance to catch up on all your Netflix shows. And if you’re lucky, your mom still has all of your favorite shows recorded. Can you say couch potato?!
4. Seeing Your Pets
Arguably even better than seeing your family.
5. One word: SLEEP
I think we can all agree that the best part of any break is cozying up in your own bed for hours on end to make up for those all nighters. For all you freshmen, you’ll get a nice break from that lovely dorm room bed.
6. Time with Siblings
Whether they’re your best friend or a pain in the butt, you’ll get to hear all about their high school/middle school lives and reminisce. Hanging with your brothers and sisters is one of the best parts of being at home.
7. Catching Up with Your Relatives
“What do you want to do after college?” “Do you have a boyfriend?” “Did you lose weight?” “Wow, you’ve grown up!”
8. Prepping the Big Meal
If you’re anything like me, “helping out in the kitchen” pretty much means being the designated taste tester. But for all you chefs, one of the most fun and important parts of Thanksgiving is cooking the big dinner! Good luck thawing that turkey…
But really, let’s get to the point…
9. The Food!
Who doesn’t love a Thanksgiving meal? Get ready to chow down on turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing until your belly is full and your diet is ruined. And one of the best parts of the day is that food-coma nap.
Because it deserves its very own spot on our list of Thanksgiving favorites. Whether you’re team pumpkin pie or a die hard apple pie fan, satisfy your sweet tooth with mom’s famous recipe.
It’s completely normal to have turkey leftovers for weeks on end. Who doesn’t love leftovers?
12. The Macy’s Parade
Kick it with the family and watch the whimsical and wild waltz through NYC! There’s so many great floats, it’s hard to pick a favorite.
13. Black Friday Shopping
Whether you’re the person who lines up the night before or a mid-Friday bargain shopper, we love hitting up those crazy Black Friday deals. And if you don’t want to deal with the insane crowds, you can easily shop online for Christmas presents for your sorority sisters/brothers, parents, and siblings from the comfort of your couch. (We’ll be having great deals that day!!)
Bonus points if Mom tags along to help out with those purchases that are way beyond the broke-college-kid budget.
14. The Reason for the Season
While we love to celebrate with good food and great times, remember to take time to think about what you’re thankful for!
So propose a toast…
And give thanks!
Because at the end of the week, it’s back to the real world we go! 🙁
Happy (early) Thanksgiving from us here at Greek U!
