sorority recruitment outfit

The age-old question: “What should I wear?” You’re all excited to start college and to rush a sorority, but are at a loss on what to wear during the whole process.

The outfits of sorority formal recruitment usually depend on each day.  Each school does it differently, but I’m speaking from my personal experience at San Diego State.

A general rule-of-thumb when deciding on outfits for rush week is each day gets progressively dressier. I always tend to overdress to play it safe. And, you should keep it classy. No skin-tight outfits or too-high heels. Think brunch with Grandma or a wedding. 🙂

Day 1: Letters Day (sometimes called Open House)

This is the day where you go to all the houses (they split it into two days at SDSU because there are so many houses), talk to a few different girls within each chapter, and make some decisions on which ones you like and don’t like.

Letters Day is the most casual day! So feel free to wear flats/sandals with white jeans and a cute top, or a casual sundress.

Day 2: Service Day (Philanthropy Day)

Service Day is all about the sorority’s philanthropy.  Sometimes you will do crafts, and other times you will just hear about the charity.

This day is a little more dressy, but still pretty casual.  I would recommend wearing flats with a sundress, or a cute romper with flats/sandals.  You can wear wedges today, but it’s still fine to wear flat shoes!

Day 3: House Tours Day (Skit Day)

House Tours was my personal favorite.  You get to go into all parts of the house and your conversations get more personal.  This is the day you start to really see if you can picture yourself in that house.

It was also my favorite outfit day.  You should be wearing a nicer, summery dress with wedges.

Day 4: Preference Night

This night is the dressiest.  You will be going to your final two houses, and usually the girls will be wearing all black dresses.

You should be wearing a semi-formal dress and heels to this event; think what you would wear to a wedding.

After Pref Night, you go to Bid Day! You just wear white/denim shorts and a plain tank top, because you will be getting a shirt from the house that gives you a bid! 🙂

Good luck ladies! ♥
