elizabeth banks as effie from the hunger games

You’ve probably seen Elizabeth Banks in The Hunger Games, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and Pitch Perfect.  A self-proclaimed amateur goofball, she is most well-known for her versatile acting career.  Her website, ElizabethBanks.com, is a hub for all things Banks finds geeky, awesome, yummy, and pretty.

Pitch Perfect has become one of the classics. Not only did Banks star in the movie, she also directed and produced it! Talk about a triple threat! Her and her husband Max Handelman own Brownstone Productions, the production company behind the film.

Banks said in an ELLE article this week that it was a risky move for an actress to become a director.  But, she was never intimidated.

Acting in and directing a movie must be tough, but Banks says she had a good cast that she worked with. Specifically John Michael Higgins, who plays John.  Banks talks highly of their rapport, and says that she can’t keep a straight face in scenes with him.  In fact, she had to cut some scenes out of the movie!

In addition to her recent production experience, her acting experience has ranged from horror movies (The Uninvited) to comedies (30 Rock and Modern Family) to drama (Love and Mercy).

“Every once in a while I play a true idiot, and they’re really fun to play.”

A native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Banks then went on to the University of Pennsylvania where she was a Tri Delt.  She met her husband on her first day of college, on the lawn of a fraternity.  Handelman was a sophomore while Banks was a freshman.  She earned a major in communications and a minor in theater arts.

Other notable Deltas are Katie Couric and Today show host Hota Kotb.

This year, Banks was named a member of the Jury for the main competition at the 2015 Venice Film Festival.
