Benefits of Greek Life: 6 Ways Greek Life Prepares You for Real Life

"From the outside looking in, you can never understand it. From the inside looking out, you can never explain it." We've all heard it a million times. As much as we would love to say it's cliche, there are truly so many benefits of Greek life. Greek life tends to get a bad rap, so we're here to highlight just a few of the reasons why going Greek is the ultimate way to prepare for life after college. And while we know it's fun to get all the Greek clothing, there are also amazing benefits that will extend past your college career! Check it out below!

1. Opportunities for Leadership

Being a part of Greek life is a fantastic way to gain leadership opportunities. While they vary in each specific organization, there are a number of positions vital to the operation of any chapter. What better way to get involved than by helping to lead your chapter! From planning social events to managing your organization's finances, each position offers experience with leadership that is great to have when applying for post-grad work. (Check out our post about what it's like to be on Exec here!) You can put all sorority and fraternity leadership experience on your resume, which looks great for future employers! They gather that you are a go-getter, take initiative and can balance a busy schedule well.

2. Improves Time Management and Organization

Being an active member of your organization can be a busy task! Between meetings and other Greek events, there's always something to attend, get done, or plan for! Greek life is a fantastic way to improve your life's organization and budget your time between school, your chapter, and everything else you have going on in your busy college life. This is an excellent skill that takes you very far in life, especially when you start to look for jobs after college. You'd be surprised at how many people don't know how to balance their time efficiently.

3. Experience with Problem Solving

While success is great, realistically sometimes things don't work out the way you planned. Even when you encounter a problem within your organization, learning to solve and prevent problems is one of the other great benefits of Greek life. This is especially important going into the work force, because knowing how to skillfully manage problems you encounter is a fantastic (and impressive) skill to have!

4. Offers Networking Opportunities

Similar to the point of gaining leadership skills, Greek life is one of the best ways to network with others. A great deal of company executives are Greek alumni, making your Greek membership a great way to connect to others in the workforce. This is relevant for every field, so get to know your fellow Greeks, it could pay off big time! But wait - How do you even know where to start with networking? Start by practicing your conversational skills. A great place to do this? Rush! Recruitment is an excellent practice zone for future networking. You'll basically learn how to pull good conversation out of thin air. Such a great skill!

5. Promotes a Well-Rounded Lifestyle

Being involved in Greek life is one of the best ways to make the most out of your college years. Going Greek allows you to be involved in running an organization, helps you keep on top of your school work, and involves a certain extent of social activities. In the end, life isn't really about the grade you got on that calculus exam freshman year. You'll want interpersonal and leadership experience under your belt, which is just what Greek life promotes! 6. Introduces You to Lifelong Friends

Finally, and most importantly, going Greek is undoubtedly one of the best ways to meet others on campus who have similar interests and values. Greek life provides you with friendships that will genuinely last a lifetime! Future bridesmaids and friends for life? You bet!   That's a wrap on our list of ways Greek life prepares you for the real world! From lifetime friendships to improving your time management, there are plenty of great reasons to go Greek during your college years. Because, from the outside looking in, you can never understand it. And from the inside... well, you get the point.   Wishing you an awesome rest of your week from everyone at GreekU.com!
