Proud to Be Greek Wednesdays

The lifelong bonds you form, the communities you serve, and the invaluable lessons you learn are all part of an unforgettable Greek organization experience. Joining a brotherhood or sisterhood is an honor and a privilege, and with it comes social awareness and responsibility. Each week we are going to be featuring an essay written by a fraternity/sorority member to highlight how Greek life has had a positive impact.

The Greek Community

Joining a sorority has been such a fabulous experience for me. It has opened my life to a community of women who all share so many of the same values as I do. We all have a passion for our communities and our philanthropies. We all continue to break down barriers. And most of all, old or young we all support and empower one another.

This network of women is something I am so incredibly thankful for. They have taught so much about myself and how to help those around me. I constantly hear people say that I paid for my friends, but if I did, I didn’t pay nearly enough. These friendships are going to last me a lifetime.

One of my favorite parts is that being a member of a sorority doesn’t limit you to just the members in your organization. I have made so many friends in the entire Greek community. It is a decision I don’t think I will ever regret because I have gained so much more from it, than just a few parties and tee shirts. I have gained lifelong friends, experience working with incredibly well deserving philanthropies, constant support, and most of all a feeling of belonging to something bigger than me.

College is a weird transition in our lives. Living on our own away from our family and our old friends is tough. However, knowing that I had my sisters by my side made everything that much easier. Greek life is something I recommend everyone pursue. It has given me so much that I couldn’t possibly imagine what my life would be like if I had not joined Alpha Chi Omega.
