Yummy Frittata
A frittata is basically an egg dish that sounds complicated, but is actually very easy to make. Crack a few eggs in an oiled pot that is oven safe. Whip it together lightly. Then add whatever you like, whether it is spinach, broccoli, tomato, cheese, mushrooms, or any other topping. Mix things up a little more, spray with some olive oil and let it bake for about 15 minutes.
Avocado on Toast
Avocadoes are considered a superfood because they contain so many good nutrients, like potassium, vitamin B-6, and vitamin C. It’s also so simple to prepare when perfectly ripe. And that is important when you are a busy college student. Spreading some avocado on toast is a great way to start your day. Cut half of an avocado, spoon it out, and use a fork to chop it up with a bit of salt.
Be sure to add plenty of toppings -- whatever you have in the fridge. That might be feta cheese crumbles, cherry tomatoes, or banana slices if you like things a little sweet.
Yogurt Smoothie
If you want to keep your digestive system as healthy as possible, you might need to add probiotics to your diet. A smoothie made with probiotic-rich yogurt is just the thing.
Add about half of your favorite yogurt flavor to your smoothie cup. Keep frozen fruits in your freezer and add about a half of those to your cup along with some ice to make a yogurt smoothie. This is a quick, cold breakfast you can enjoy while walking to class or a sorority recruitment event.
Hash Brown Potatoes (Optional Fried Egg)
This is a good breakfast recipe to make if you have an air fryer in your dorm. Take a few small potatoes and shred them on a cheese shredder. Place the potatoes on aluminum foil inside of the air fryer. Add olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and any other seasonings you prefer. Place them in the air fryer on medium for about 10 to 15 minutes or until they are roasted to your liking. You might decide to add a fried egg on top about 10 minutes in and keep cooking. It's a quick, simple breakfast that will provide you with necessary nutrients and energy.
Grits and Veggies
Grits, sometimes called “polenta,” are a popular breakfast food in the South. They are very filling and great for adding additional ingredients for nutrition. Use quick grits, which only take about five minutes to make. Add a little butter, some cheese, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach or whatever you like to start your morning.
It isn't always realistic to prepare a full breakfast for yourself when you are in college and living the dorm life. But if you have a little time, these are some great go-to breakfast ideas—simple suggestions for how you can eat healthy first thing in the morning.

Take Power Naps
It can be difficult to get an uninterrupted 7-9 hours of sleep each night during final exams -- mostly due to the pressure to keep studying until the early parts of the morning. If you're having trouble sleeping, try power naps. A power nap is a short bit of sleep you take at some point in the day, usually about 40 minutes long. You would be surprised at how refreshed you may feel after sleeping for just under an hour. Take a break from the books, settle in a comfortable place, and set your alarm to wake you in 40 minutes.
Go to the Library
You are going to have so many distractions if you decide to study for your finals in your dorm room or chapter house. Pack up your Greek lettered tote or backpack and head to the school library to study. It's a place where you'll likely get more peace and the ability to concentrate. If you have a good study buddy, bring him or her along.
Eat Two Good Meals the Day Before an Exam
The day before finals is not the time to stuff yourself with junk food. Take the time to eat at least two meals packed with nutrients and protein. Some ideas include:
Also, make sure you have your favorite caffeinated beverage handy in your fraternity or sorority coffee mug for inspiration. Drinking coffee or black tea is a good way to stay alert while you’re studying, but don’t drink so much that you’re bouncing off the walls and lose your focus.
Take Breaks, Breathe, and Meditate
Finals time can be very stressful. Everyone on campus is buzzing around, worrying, and looking like zombies if they haven't gotten proper sleep. That energy can affect you if you let it, so you have to do whatever you can to protect your mental health and wellness.
Take a break every couple of hours or so while studying, close your eyes, and meditate for at least 10 minutes. It will help you maintain balance. There are apps that can help you with this. You might also benefit from a quick five or 10-minute yoga session, which are in abundance on YouTube.
Arrive Early for Your Exams
Whenever possible, arrive at least a half an hour early to your exam room. It will give you a few extra moments to look over your notes and get comfortable in the environment before everyone else starts to arrive. You may have been dreading sitting in that seat for days, but once you're there it may calm you. It also helps to have the information you need fresh on your mind.
No need to be too nervous for your first finals when you use these tips to stay grounded. You've got this -- think of the relief you'll have when you finish all your exams, knowing you did your best, and finally have a chance to reconnect with your sorority sisters and fraternity brothers to enjoy the full perks of Greek life again.

Going to class every day and navigating sorority and fraternity life can be stressing on your body and mind. Having the right nutrition is key. Here is the ultimate healthy grocery list for the college student.
Avocados
They say that avocados provide a healthy form of fat and are also loaded with potassium. They are also very delicious when you add a little salt, onions, and other simple ingredients. You can have them with an egg in the morning (microwaved), or top them on a piece of toasted bread for a quick snack before class.
Tomatoes
The health benefits of tomatoes include vitamin C, vitamin A, and an array of other nutrients. Just keep a few in your fridge to snack on with some salad dressing every now and again.
Cucumbers
Not only are cucumbers refreshing and wonderful on a warm summer day, they are also a great form of hydration as well as nutrients. Again, keep a couple in your fridge to snack on when you’re going over your latest assignments and need a little boost.
Green or Black Tea
One thing you should always have in your dorm is a good supply of tea. Two good choices are green tea or black tea. Green tea might be able to increase brain function and improve your health in general. Black tea will provide you with a little caffeine when you are trying to stay up late to finish a paper.
Strawberries, Cherries, Blueberries
Most fruits provide good nutrition, but these three fruits are especially good for many reasons. For one, you can freeze them and make them into smoothies in the morning that you can take to class. They are also perfect for snacking on and much better than eating unhealthy snacks during the day.
Low Sodium Broth
There are days when you may not feel like eating much, but you still want to get some level of nutrition. In this case, you might want to get a low-sodium broth to keep in your refrigerator and sip on every now and again.
Olive Oil
One of the healthiest oils you can cook with is extra virgin olive oil. It can also help improve brain function, as well as memory. It can also help make you feel stronger physically over time.
Potatoes
Though some people can't really eat too many potatoes because of the starch, they are also very high in potassium. We are supposed to get up to 4700 mg of potassium each day though that is mostly unachievable for most. Instead of eating potato chips or fries, consider buying some golden potatoes and either baking them with a little butter and salt, or boiling them then topping them with some veggies.
Spinach
Spinach is considered a superfood. It has countless nutritious elements, including iron, calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin A. Just keep a frozen bag in your freezer to quickly add to dishes, or to heat up with garlic and olive oil.
Lots of Good Quality Water
It is important to purchase lots of good water to keep in your dorm so that you can stay hydrated each day. Keep it frozen and cold.
You’ll need plenty of energy for the upcoming sorority or fraternity recruitment season. If you've been looking to shop better and get healthier ingredients for your dorm room or kitchen as a college student, this is a good start. As time goes on you will learn even more about the best foods to have on hand.

Here are a few inspiring books to read this summer to rejuvenate and renew yourself. You are going to need them as you prepare for the upcoming sorority or fraternity Greek recruitment season.
You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay
The late Louise Hay has inspired countless people with her thoughts on life and living it to the fullest. One of her most inspirational books is You Can Heal Your Life. It contains so many gems that will encourage and motivate you through hard times and understand people.
It's Not Over Until You Win by Les Brown
Some people just have a special gift for speaking and communicating to others. Les Brown is one of those people. He has been doing public speaking at everything from elementary schools to major arenas. It’s Not Over Until You Win is one book to put on your list for inspiration.
The Power by Rhonda Byrne
One of the things that I have learned over time is the power of love. Caring about others and being good to other people. I think you also have to be confident enough to request the things that you want and believe that they will manifest.
The Power by Rhonda Byrne is inspirational if you are looking to improve your life, whether it is in relationships, finances, or just feeling better about yourself. Take your time reading this book this summer.
Just as I Am by Cecily Tyson
The world lost an icon when Cicely Tyson passed on. She made so many accomplishments as an actress and generally someone who represented great things for humanity. Thankfully she wrote a best-selling book about her life that has been inspirational to many called Just as I Am. You might want to put it on your list of summer reads.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
Have you felt that you need to learn how to get along better with people, especially interests and your sorority sisters? The way that you relate with others is so important when you are focused on self-improvement. The book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a good book to listen to or read this summer.

]]>So what's the solution? Pick a quick workout routine that you'll look forward to and make time for in your limited schedule. Our favorite workouts are any that we can do with our favorite person, whether it's your sorority sister, fraternity brother, spec, roommate, or best friend at college. You can motivate each other, and have a good time while staying in shape. And don’t forget to get geared up in sorority workout clothing like leggings and joggers that will help you move around and feel comfortable. Here are a few workout routines that are perfect for two people.
Light Dorm Room Sparring
All you and your buddy need for this workout routine is a pair of boxing gloves and a pair of punching mitts. They're a lot more affordable than you might think. Sparring (safely) even for just 10-15 minutes is a major cardio workout and totally worth the time. Put on your gear and take turns throwing jabs -- one person wearing the mitts, the other using the gloves to hit the mitts. Make sure you protect your face!
Foot Toss for Tighter Abs
Lay down flat on your back with your partner standing above your head. Grab her ankles for stability and get comfortable. When you're ready, slowly bring both of your feet up toward your partner; she will then push your feet back down. Resist allowing your feet to hit the ground again -- you’ll feel the tension in your abs, legs, and thighs. Continue lifting your feet up toward your partner, who will toss them down again, and repeat for as long as you can stand it.
Partner Powerwalks
Now that more people are starting to appreciate the beauty of nature, and generally just the easy breeziness of being outside, walking outdoors has become a treasured way of getting exercise. Schedule daily powerwalks around your neighborhood with your favorite sorority sister, roommate, or best friend. This is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy and energetic throughout your school week. Even when it gets a little chilly outside this fall, put on a sorority jacket or pullover along with your Greek-lettered face mask and continue your walks.
Dance Party Workout
One of our favorite workouts, which doesn’t even feel like a workout, is dancing. Throw on an upbeat playlist and grab your buddy (or two, or three). Hop, bop, shake, move around and dance like no one is watching or cares what you’re doing. What a great way to practice your moves for the next Greek party you get a chance to throw or attend.
When you pick a workout that you actually enjoy you’re more likely to do it with consistency -- especially when you get to do it with your favorite person. Incorporate these exercises into your daily or weekly routine to help improve your mental and physical wellness.

]]>Do you really know if you are cut out for Greek life? Take this quick quiz to get an idea of whether joining a fraternity or sorority is the right move for you in both the short and long term. These are the questions you will likely be asked by current members when you are in the recruiting process, and questions you’ll need to ask yourself.
Q1. Can you effectively juggle school work with extracurriculars? And are you currently maintaining a good grade point average (GPA)?
One principle of most sorority and fraternity organizations is scholarship -- the idea that their members should maintain high standards of education. Before you apply for membership in a Greek organization, make sure that your grade point average is at a comfortable level. Most groups will let you know the minimum GPA to apply. Also ensure that you can maintain or improve that GPA.
Q2. Do you get along with others well?
A fraternity is about brotherhood and a sorority is about sisterhood, so it’s no longer just about you -- you have to be willing to get along with other people on a daily basis. Are there certain personalities that you tend to clash with, and do you think that coming into contact with those personalities will affect your ability to get things done for your sorority or fraternity?
Q3. Are you prepared to spend a significant portion of each day at meetings, planning, and working on projects related to your Greek organization?
Some say that the real “pledging” begins when you join an organization. You’ve pledged yourself to helping your sorority or fraternity grow and maintain a good reputation. The recruitment process can be difficult enough, but once you are a member you are going to be expected to do a lot. So, you can’t sleep in every morning -- most likely you’re going to be up early going to a planning meeting. Your weekends might not be free, because you may have to travel to a state meeting as a delegate or help at a soup kitchen wearing your Greek lettered t-shirt and face mask.
Q4. Are you prepared to dedicate a portion of your upcoming semester to recruitment activities?
Recruitment is a key part of Greek life. You have to keep your organization vibrant and flush with new members. That includes attending events and being available when called on by sorority or fraternity members for recruitment on short notice. You also are an example for your organization wherever you go on campus, whether you’re in the dining hall, lecture hall, or the general halls of your university.
Q5. On a scale of one to 10, how committed are you to community service?
Most fraternities and sororities have a long-standing history of serving their communities and being positive role models for younger people. Are you really committed to community service in a way that inspires and motivates you? In some cases, you’ll be expected to complete a certain number of community service hours to qualify for membership.
Q6. Are you ready to commit to wearing the colors and Greek letters of your organization on almost a daily basis?
Once you become a member, you might be expected to wear your organization’s colors and letters as much as possible. It’s to promote and support your group—especially in advance of recruitment activities. At GreekU.com you can find the and Greek lettered clothing that you’ll need for your first semester as a member.
Q7. Are you prepared for life (even after college) as a Greek?
Graduation day is not the culmination of your life as a Greek member for most organizations. You are likely going to have these connections with your sorority sisters and fraternity brothers for a lifetime. 10 or 20 years from now you'll probably still have some type of tie to them.
Take a moment to really consider the answers to the questions on this quiz about whether you are ready for Greek life. This is a decision that will be with you not just in college, but many years into the future.

When you're in the dorm room at your sorority house studying and starting to run out of steam, one of the best ways to energize yourself is to do a quick workout. Now that it is mostly inadvisable to go to the gym due to public health concerns, you may want to stay in your room to exercise as much as possible. Here are a few super easy workouts that you can do in your dorm in just a few minutes. Schedule them during your study breaks or whenever you need a boost. Put on your sorority workout gear and take some time out for yourself to get in shape each day, right in the comfort of your college dorm room.
Backwards Bed Drops
When you get out of bed in the morning or before you go to sleep at night, make time to do a few backwards bed drops. Clutch the side of your bed tightly and reach your feet out as far as they can go, ensuring that you have your balance. Keeping your knees slightly bent, slowly drop your backside a few inches below the surface of the bed. When you get a comfortable rhythm, increase your speed. Do 10 repetitions and at least two sets to get a good, quick workout. This will help strengthen your arms, shoulders, and abdomen.
3-Minute Yoga Sequence
A good yoga sequence can give you a positive start to your day. You may not have a whole lot of time to do a long yoga session, so try this easy three-minute yoga routine. First, put on your lettered Sorority Fitness Yoga Pants along with a comfortable cotton Greek t-shirt or tank top so that you can get a good stretch. Start by standing with your feet slightly apart in a comfortable stance. Reach your hands up towards the sky and hold for three seconds, breathing in and out slowly, fully. When you’re ready, use your left hand to grab your right wrist and stretch to the right side. Come back to the center, then do the opposite, grabbing your left wrist with your right hand and stretching to the left side. Again, hold for three seconds then come back to the center. Take a few more deep breaths and relax. Next, lower your hands and bend slightly backward as if you are looking straight up to the ceiling. Then relax your arms at your sides.
Next do the warrior pose. Reach your left arm out to the left, and stretch your right arm out in the opposite direction, as straight as possible. Look to the left and lunge slightly forward in that direction. Take a breath, place your right hand on your right back side and then lift your left hand up and over your head as if you are tracing a rainbow. Do the same thing on the other side seamlessly, then take another deep breath and bring your hands and your feet back to center.
Repeat this entire sequence as many times as you can in three minutes to stretch your body and energize yourself. You can get more detailed guidance on these poses by looking up short yoga workouts online.
Textbook Lifting
What are the heaviest items you probably have in your dorm besides your furniture? Your textbooks of course! You can use them as weights to do some quick weight lifting exercises.
Put a few of your heaviest textbooks into two pillow cases. Ensure that the weights are manageable for you, and as balanced as possible on both sides. Position your feet so that they are about shoulder-width apart and bend your knees slightly for stability. Slowly lift both textbook weights at the same time (as if you’re doing curls with a dumbbell) until you do about seven repetitions. Take a break and then do another two sets for good measure. This will help strengthen your biceps and develop muscular definition in your arms over time. Before you know it, you'll be carrying those textbooks around campus with ease like a champ!
Window Sill Pushups
Doing regular push-ups can be difficult, and sometimes you just don't feel like getting on that sketchy dorm room floor where you, your roommate, and your sorority sisters have probably trampled a thousand times. So instead, do push-ups on your window sill each day. Grab the edge of your window sill tightly and do push-ups as you would normally do on the floor. Go as deep down as you can while keeping your core tight. Try to do 15 to 20 window sill push-ups for a nice little workout before you head out to face the day on campus with your sorority sisters.
You don't have to go to the gym or even leave your sorority house to get a workout. You also don't have to stress yourself out with tough, long workouts that leave you feeling drained or sore. Try one or all of these quick dorm room workouts each day. You may find that at the end of the semester you really like what you see in the mirror.
* Consult your physician before starting any new workout plan.
Look good and stay fit while representing your sorority or fraternity when you shop at GreekU.com . You’ll find high quality Greek workout clothing, including joggers, leggings, sweatshirts, and t-shirts priced to fit your budget. Also, remember to wear your sorority and fraternity face masks when you work out outside and be safe!
]]>These are some of the beauty products that every sorority girl will likely want to have in her dorm room so that she’s always presenting her best face to the world.
A Quality Cleansing Scrub When your skin starts to look rough, patchy, or blemished, one beauty product you need in your bathroom is a cleansing scrub. You only have to use it every few days, but it can do wonders for your face if you use it regularly. A cleansing scrub will help make your skin look brighter and feel smoother.
Recommendation: Try Acure Brightening Facial Scrub, which is made with sea kelp and other natural ingredients.
Lash Defining or Lengthening Mascara Your eyes are a key element of your beauty and any way that you can accent them will take your look to the next level. One beauty product most women can’t live without is a mascara that either lengths the lashes or separates and defines them (preferably both).
Recommendation: A popular mascara line that will help bring out the beauty of your eyes is Maybelline’s volumizing and lengthening products.
Lip Softening Lipstick or Chapstick There is not much worse than being up close and personal with a potential new member when you have really chapped, cracking lips. You could have on a new sorority jacket or Greek lettered t-shirt and a gleaming gold sorority lettered lavaliere, but all they will remember is how chapped and dry your lips looked! A reliable lip softening lipstick or chapstick is a crucial addition to your beauty product collection.
Recommendation: Try O'Keefe's Lip Repair balm, or Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Gloss if you want a little color.
A Go-To Conditioner The type of shampoo you choose to use is important, but even more significant is the type of conditioner that you use on a regular basis. The conditioner is what ensures that you’ll have shiny healthy hair on a regular basis while on campus, and people (especially other women) tend to notice things like that. Look for a conditioner that is rich in healthy oils such as argan and coconut, as well as biotin and protein. It should make your hair easy to detangle when you’re in a rush to get to class.
Recommendation: There are so many great brands to choose from, but here are a few suggestions: Paul Mitchell, Nexxus, Whole Blends, and Aussie products.
An Easy to Blend Foundation You may not always have time to do a full makeup application each morning before class or before a sorority event. So, another essential beauty product to keep in your makeup bag is an easy to blend foundation. It might be a powder or liquid foundation -- just something that you can put on quickly.
Recommendation: You may find that Bare Minerals and Iman foundations are usually easy to apply and blend when you’re in a hurry. There are certain beauty products that every sorority member in college who cares about her appearance will want to have around. Chances are that you and your chapter sisters will be sharing these products with each other throughout the school year. Looking good while representing your sorority on campus and in the community is key. For quality sorority gifts, clothing, and merchandise, shop GreekU.com
]]>One thing you’ll quickly learn about living in a sorority house is that it can be like living in Grand Central Station. People come over frequently for visits or residents are in and out from class. You’ll get used to hearing the doorbell or someone knocking on the front door often.
Here’s something else you can expect to see first thing in the morning (and late at night before parties) when you live in a sorority house: makeup trays, bags, and products covering just about every inch of every bathroom counter or shelving unit. You’d better claim a spot soon!
The energy inside a sorority house is so lively that it’s common for the whole house to be up as late as three, four, or even five o’clock in the morning. Some are studying, some are visiting sisters in other dorm rooms, and some are in the kitchen making a late-night snack. It’s rare for anyone to be asleep before midnight, even if they have early morning classes.
One thing that just about every sorority woman has is a lot of hair. You’ll see hair pretty much everywhere in your chapter house, whether it’s on the bathroom sink, the floor, or in the drain of your favorite shower stall. You’ll probably see a lot of combs and brushes full of hair laying around as well as a few hair extensions hang-drying from time to time.
It’s pretty common for coveted sorority para to come up missing when you live in the chapter house. Some sisters like to play the “para game,” where they basically take your Greek gear and keep it until you finally realize it’s not in its usual place. So make sure you keep your favorite sorority paddles, lettered t-shirts, and other Greek paraphernalia in a safe hiding place.
One of the reasons why you’re required to spend so much time with your future sorority sisters during recruitment time is that for the next three to four years, privacy will be pretty much non-existent. When you live in a sorority house, you’ll have to share bathrooms, common areas, and constantly see other sisters who are socializing in the hallways. Also, don’t always expect your sisters to knock before entering your bedroom.
When you live in a sorority house there are going to be multiple women contending for their time in the shared bathroom. There may be some days when you don’t get to shower. So, you might not always feel or smell as fresh as you’d like when you walk into lecture hall.
It’s after midnight, and suddenly you hear your sorority song being sung by a choir of voices in the main room. Or music starts playing as they rehearse a unique dance routine. They’re practicing for the upcoming presentation for a special recruitment event or formal affair.
You walk into the kitchen at your sorority house after classes each evening and there’s a sink full of dirty dishes. It’s rare for anyone to clean up after themselves because they’re probably waiting for the sorority house director to handle things. It’s probably best to stock up on paper goods for your dorm room.
Sorority members are serious about their organizations, and take pride in displaying their colors and letters on Greek t-shirts, jackets, and jewelry. That’s also the case when it comes to sorority home décor. You’ll probably see sorority afghans and pillows, paddles and plaques, and countless stationery and desk items decorated with Greek letters throughout the house.
Living in a sorority house is an interesting and exciting experience. Make sure you’re geared up for the semester ahead. For quality sorority and fraternity gifts, clothing, and merchandise that will arrive in time for rush season, shop GreekU.com .
]]>You may not always have time to head outside to exercise when you have a paper due or countless chapters to read. So try these 5 super-easy workouts that you can do right in your dorm room.
When you’re studying your textbook at the desk in your dorm, why not make a little game of it. Every time you complete a chapter or section, and successfully gain a full understanding of what you need to learn, pause to do a set of leg lifts.
Just back up from the desk in your chair, ground your feet, grab the back of your chair wherever it feels comfortable to steady yourself and lift your knees up as far as you can. Then release. Repeat until you’ve done about 10.
Are you expected to give a short speech before a panel for your sorority or fraternity? Do short plank sessions as you recite important lines from your talk. You could also downward facing dog instead if planks are a little stressful for you.
As you probably know, college is mostly about memorizing important facts and data so that you can pass your exams. Do some jumping jacks as you remember and recite facts on the important subjects that you’re required to study. The jumping will help get your circulation going and stimulate your senses as you recall info.
Have you ever turned on your favorite high energy song and committed to doing a few push-ups? Putting on some music will motivate you to get the job done. You don’t have to do your push-ups on the dorm room floor (which probably could use a good vacuuming and sanitizing session). Just grab the edge of your bed, extend your feet out behind you, get on your toes, and start pumping up and down. Even if you only do 10 or 15 pushups, that’s progress. The more you do them, the deeper you’ll be able to bring your body down and the more reps you’ll be able to achieve.
If you and your roommate need a quick break, put the books and laptop aside for a minute and do some leg pushes. Lay back on your bed or a yoga mat on your floor with your legs as a 90-degree angle and have your roommate stand safely above your head. Allow your roomie to push your legs forward, then let them slowly return to 90 degrees. It’s good for working out your thighs and abdomen, and it’s also a nice bonding activity when you guys need a quick break.
If there was ever an excuse to have some cool sorority and fraternity workout clothes handy, including joggers, sweatpants, and tank tops, these five dorm room exercises are it. The more comfortable you are, the more you’ll feel inspired to work out and get things done throughout the school year.
For quality sorority and fraternity gifts, clothing, and merchandise, that will arrive in time for rush season, shop GreekU.com .

Sip Valerian Tea
When you're stressed about school work, sorority or fraternity recruitment, and other matters of business, it can be difficult to get to sleep at night at a normal hour. If you're having trouble sleeping, try drinking some Valerian tea. It will relax you and help relieve whatever stress you're experiencing at the time. Chamomile is also helpful for relaxing some people.
Just don’t drink this tea right before you go to class because it could make you fall asleep while your professor is lecturing!
Music Therapy
Music is soothing to the mind, body, and soul. Listening to a calm, relaxing playlist for just an hour can do a lot for your stress symptoms. Take about 30 minutes out of your day to compile a playlist on whichever music service you prefer, and name it “My Music Therapy.” Put it on whenever you are feeling a bit stressed.
Do a 5 Minute Yoga Stretch
Yoga exercises can help relieve stress. When you stretch your muscles, bones, and tendons it relaxes your body and eases your mind. You won't have to do it for very long to get results. You can find five-minute yoga videos on YouTube that you can do in between studying or classes.
Also, if you have a safe space to do your Yoga routine outdoors, that is the best place. Doing your stretches early in the morning when the sun rises will help set a good tone for your day. Make sure you put on your favorite Greek activewear before you head out.
Think of a Good Place
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would that be? A mountain in Europe? A beach in the Caribbean? A festival in Canada? When you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, close your eyes and think of that place. Meditate on it to the point where you feel like you are actually there. Release all of what you are stressing about, if only for a moment.
Do One Productive Thing Each Day
Doing something productive can help ease stress and worry. It could be something as simple as washing one dish in your sink, or making up your bed, or writing one paragraph for your paper that's coming due. Maybe it’s time to organize and update your fraternity or sorority clothing collection. Just do it. It will help take your mind over whatever it is you were stressing about. Sometimes we feel obligated to do one specific thing when we can do something else to motivate us to get the other thing done.
Explore these wellness hacks for how to relieve stress as a college student, especially if you are also juggling the tasks of being a fraternity or sorority member. This could help you get through the semester and eventually to graduation day without much worry or drama.
]]>This fall, colleges are going to have to find ways to implement social distancing measures both in and out of the classroom. From reducing class sizes to expanding dining hall hours, expect schools to look for ways to spread students out. Social distancing doesn’t have to mean not socializing at all. Outdoor activities are generally considered safer than indoor activities, so start planning your intramural team now and grab matching shirts for the crew.
Of course, if an outbreak happens, contact tracing is going to be key to prevent illness from quickly spreading through the student body. Many colleges and universities plan to have contact tracers on standby in the event that a student tests positive for COVID-19.
Improved Sanitization
Of course, covering up and social distancing can only go so far. Colleges and universities are going to have to also make an effort to keep common areas clean and sanitized. Students can also do their part by keeping dorm rooms cleaned and communicating with professors when they’re sick. By working together, college administrators and students can be a team in staying health as everyone head’s back to campus this fall.

Cheat Sheet for Interested Members
The process of joining a sorority can be both nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time. Sorority bonds can last for decades, so you want to make the right choice. These are a few things to keep in mind if you're interested in joining a sorority this semester, and you plan to participate in rush activities.
Attend as Many Rush Events as You Can
If you really want a bid from a particular sorority, you should make every effort to attend all the events the sorority hosts. It shows that you're committed and reliable.
Know Before You Go
Know the details about a sorority before you attend rush events and activities. Members want to know that you have a serious interest that has inspired you to want to learn about the history, principles and goals of the organization. Do your research ahead of time.
Be Yourself
This is true for pretty much everything in life, but when you present yourself, just be yourself. Do not try to be something that you aren't, because people can see through that. It's also important to be who you truly are to make sure that you're joining a group of women who will appreciate who you are. These are women you'll hopefully bond with - not just in college, but in the years after.
Get Your Grades up
In most sororities, scholarship is a major tenet. They want to make sure that they are bringing in girls who are smart, industrious and hard working. So if you want to do well during sorority rush, make sure that you are getting decent grades. If your grades aren't where they should be, you might consider taking a year to work on that and seeking sorority life later in your college career.
Cheat Sheet for Those Conducting Recruitment
By now, you've probably already had plenty of experience with what is involved with being a big sister and overseeing recruitment activities as a member of your sorority. Here are a few things to think about that can help make the process of choosing new members easier and more effective.
Tell Them What You're all About
Always be prepared with a 15- to 30-second spiel about your sorority in case someone asks you about it. Some call it an “elevator pitch.” Once you tell the person what you and your organization are all about, they will know what they are getting into. That way, no one is wasting any time expecting something other than what your sorority delivers.
Be Warm and Inviting
Remember that potential new members are just trying to fit in and find their way, just like you were when you first joined your sorority. Keep kindness in mind when dealing with interests, even if you don't think a potential new member is a good fit.
Understand That Potential Members Make Mistakes
Try to remember what things were like when you were an interest wanting to join your sorority. You probably didn't always make the right choices, do the right thing or say the right thing. So be understanding when interests will make mistakes or missteps. These don't necessarily mean that they won't make great sorority sisters.
Read Between the Lines to Find Hard Workers
The last thing you want in terms of bringing in new sisters is someone who will not pick up the slack in terms of sorority business. You can learn the difference between potential slackers and hard workers by simply listening to what they say and reading between the lines.
Get Geared up
It's a good idea to stock up on new sorority paraphernalia before recruitment time. When interests see you wearing your sorority letters around campus and at parties, they may be more inclined to get to know you and your sisters. Also, remember to stock up on lettered signs, party favors and gifts for sorority rush.
The best advice for everyone during recruitment, whether you're an interest or a current chapter sister, is to relax and try to have some fun. This is an exciting part of the college experience that you probably won't ever forget.

One of the most awkward conversations that will likely come up at some point during sorority recruitment is “so, who are you dating?” There’s always a chance that the interest is currently dating or has dated someone who an active sorority sister has dated. Sometimes it’s best to keep your dating history as private as possible!
This question can be uncomfortable for a potential new member if she hasn’t thoroughly thought the answer through. Sometimes, PNMs go around to different houses not sure which one they really want to join, and in some cases, they just want to join any group that will take them. So, when presented with this question an interest might find herself at a loss for words. This is why it’s always a good idea to research the basic history and principles of each sorority in advance of attending recruitment events.
This question may seem innocent enough, but it can be tricky. A potential recruit probably won’t know if the sister she's chatting with at a recruitment event isn’t a fan of the other person she’s cool with. We'd like to think that everyone gets along in sororities and in the overall Greek community, but sometimes there are personal rivalries.
In their minds, most young freshwomen are thinking that they are going to join a sorority so that they can party, wear Greek paraphernalia, and have a good time. But as many members of sororities and fraternities often say, the real "pledging" begins when you join. There is a lot of work to be done when you’re in a sorority, from planning forums, to attending state or national meetings, to organizing the next semester's recruitment activities. So as a potential new member, if you tell a big sister that you plan to join so that you can have a good time, that conversation can get very awkward and uncomfortable very quickly.
If you’re a potential new member and you've never done community service before, you may find yourself in an awkward conversation if you're asked this question. The best thing to do is just tell the truth and say that you are looking forward to helping more in your community. Joining a sorority will motivate you to help others more.
The first semester on campus is somewhat of a blur for many young students. For many freshwomen, it's their first chance to have some independence, party, and have fun on their own terms, so it's common for them to slack off a bit in their studies.
Unfortunately, that does not bode well when a new student is planning to join the sorority recruitment process. Sorority members are obligated to ensure that their potential new members meet certain GPA requirements, so they must ask about grades at some point.
Sororities and fraternities have moral obligations and images to uphold, and they are required to ensure that their members meet certain social and character requirements for membership. One potentially awkward conversation will come if a potential new member has a questionable photo posted on social media. While it may not be a deal-breaker, the PNM may be inspired to take down photos that don't represent the ideals and principles of the sorority.
Think about these seven awkward conversations that will inevitably come up at sorority recruitment events in advance so that you’ll be prepared, whether you’re a sister or someone who’s interested in joining. Keep in mind that having a difficult or embarrassing conversation at a sorority meet ‘n greet isn’t necessarily the end of the road when it comes to the recruitment process—it happens a lot!
If you’re hosting a recruitment event for your chapter, remember to get party favors and sorority gifts for your attendees, as well as Greek lettered buttons to wear so that potential new members will know who to chat with.
]]>The Lagertha Look
Who hasn't tried to copy the bold hairstyle of Queen Lagertha from Vikings? Well, rush is a perfect excuse for you and your girls to get together and try something daring. The key to achieving Lagertha’s hairstyle is to loop a few loose braids together on the sides of your head (no need for perfection), pin them, and then fluff liberally along the crown of your hair with a teaser comb. Be sure to comb the hair in front upward and add a single, long rope braid to complete the style. Once you get it down pat, you'll probably want to wear this hair everywhere you go on campus. A smoky dark eye and flirty lashes is all you need to seal the deal on this look for rush.
Natural (I Woke Up Like This)
There's nothing quite as attractive as a woman who's confident enough to rock a natural look. Natural requires very little color and flair, but it is still very chic and attractive. Natural-looking makeup is easy to achieve with a few simple tools: a flattering powder foundation (preferably with a bronze tint), your favorite mascara, an eye shadow that matches your undertone (check the inside of your wrist) and an eyebrow shaper or eyebrow wax kit to create the perfect arched brow. Pair this look with a straight, sleek, flat-ironed hairstyle, and add delightful curls bobbing at the ends.
Also, on rush days when you’re just not in the mood for an hour or more bumping or blowing out your hair, a fun Greek lettered sorority hat paired with hoop earrings will do just fine with your natural makeup.
Yes, You’re a Greek Goddess
If you're going to spend hours washing, conditioning, blow drying, and curling your hair to perfection, why not spend an extra minute adding the perfect finishing touch? A back hair crown or gold leaf hair piece will give you the look of a proper Greek Goddess. You’ll also find an assortment of attractive silver and gold adornments that you can use in your hair in the sorority jewelry section at GreekGear.com .
Bold and Beautiful
Why do most potentials want to become members of your sorority? Because they look up to you as a bold, beautiful, confident woman who they aspire to be like. When you go to your upcoming rush and recruitment events, there's no need to overdo things, but you can do simple things with your makeup and hair that will let them know you are a force to be reckoned with. Create a perfectly winged eye in a shade that reflects one or both of your sorority's colors. Braids and twist outs are always a gorgeous choice, framing your face while giving you a modern, bohemian look.
Whatever hairstyle or makeup you choose for rush events, there’s something at Greek Gear that will help kick your look up to the next level. Browse the site’s selection of new sorority items and order a mixed box of goodies for you and your chapter sisters to choose from this semester.

I want this right now (along with every other dish on this list).
This Thanksgiving recipe is perfect with vanilla ice cream on top, and only takes 1 hour to make!
Definitely whip out this recipe this Thanksgiving. You won’t regret it.
Recipe from Will Cook For Smiles.
This is a recipe that can be used for Thanksgiving itself, afterwards (when you have too much turkey left over to know what to do with it), or game days.
What a triple threat!
These warm, melt-in-your-mouth sliders feature cheese and turkey on the inside of a dinner or Hawaiian roll.
And I don’t know about you guys, but I could have Hawaiian rolls every day for the rest of my life and not get sick of them.
They are just so darn good.
You can use your parent’s slow cooker to make these, or in the regular oven.
Keep in mind that making them in some type of cooker will make it juicy and fall off the bone.

]]>The Panhellenic women you're about to meet are feeling their share of jitters too. They have so many new faces to welcome and tough choices to make.
This is why sorority recruitment packets are so important. Packets help potential new members make a good first impression. They're like a resume to join sororities - something that speaks highly of you before you even meet the women. Plus, packets make it easier for sororities to identify you and remember you. If you're not sure how to put your packet together, follow the tips below.
Your packet should include:
You may choose to put all of this in a large envelope for mailing or deliver it in person. If you deliver it in person, you might opt to use a nice presentation folder with optional personal stickers for a polished look. Also, be sure to check your potential new sororities specific requirements for packets. For example, some may request multiple copies of your resume, academic records or test scores.
Rush week can sneak up on you if you're not careful. Between packing up for college, saying goodbye to your home and friends, and moving in, time flies. One day you're choosing your recruitment outfits, and the next, packets are due.
Don't put off preparing your packet. In fact, try to get the process started before you even start thinking about outfits. It's easy to take one day to go to the mall and find everything you want to wear. Sending out recruitment packets, contacting alumni and making sure your packet reaches your school's Panhellenic organization is a totally different story.
The sooner you start preparing, the more time you have to put your best foot forward. This applies to everything from the colors of the packet you choose to the kind of stationary you want and who you ask to write your recommendation letters.
Choose your colors carefully. Going with school colors isn't very memorable, and accidentally picking one sorority's colors doesn't send a good message to the other Greek organizations you're going to visit.
Beyond the aesthetic appeal, you want to make sure your packet means something. Take your pictures well ahead of time. Choose your location and photographer carefully, and try to make the photos capture who you really are.
As far as the written portion goes, give the women who are writing your recommendation letters as much information as possible. This will work out in your favor when they tell Panhellenic women how amazing you are.
Speaking of the women who are writing your recommendation, don't be shy about reaching out. Maybe you just found out a distant cousin is part of the sorority you'd like to join or you're not sure how to bring up rush week to your favorite high school teacher.
Remember, no one can write your letter(s) until you reach out to them, and they need time to prepare too. Suck it up and make the call or send the email, and when you do so, just be yourself.
This goes for calling your grandma or reaching out to an alumnus you've never even met. Your personality is what the Panhellenic women are interested in, so let it shine from the get-go with recommendation writers.
What does it mean to be yourself during rush week and packet preparation? Aren't you yourself every day? Yes and no; there are many ladies who go through recruitment trying to fit labels they think they need to be.
This does no good for the woman or the sorority she's about to join. For starters, there are many outside perceptions of certain sororities that just aren't true. You may attempt to fit a certain "type" only to realize you've totally missed the mark.
ou should also be trying to find the best home possible, and that's going to be the one that best matches your genuine self. Say what you feel and wear what you'd like. As long as you're following the dress code during recruitment and being polite during the packet preparation process, everything else will fall into place. If the sorority is not for you, you likely won't be chosen.
Keep in mind that being polite requires a courtesy to everyone involved in your recruitment process, not just the sorority women you're about to meet. Send a hand-written thank-you card to everyone who is writing you a recommendation letter.
This is common sense for some people, but other young women totally drop the ball here. Imagine if you were writing a recommendation for someone. You take time out of your schedule to speak of her in a good light, and she doesn't even say thank you.
How would you feel if this happened to you? Chances are, it would sting a bit. So make sure you don't do this to the people who are helping you. It's bad form all around.
Writing a thank you card takes only a few minutes of your time, and it can make someone's whole day. The woman writing your recommendation will be more likely to speak very highly of you when you show her common courtesy, and more importantly, she'll know you value and appreciate her efforts.
Here's one more tip about preparing sorority recruitment packets: don't put too much pressure on yourself! At the end of the day, this is just an introduction.
You don't have to break the bank for fancy stationery or too many copies if you don't feel comfortable doing so. You also don't need to stress over what you wear or getting perfect pictures made.
Just follow the tips mentioned above, relax and have fun. Your packets are sure to catch the eye of the women you're bound to call sisters, and your genuine self is what will seal the deal.
Everything else is just part of the process. Rush week can be a little stressful and a bit intimidating with so many women to meet and such long hours. But at the end of it all, you'll find your home, and that's a joy like no other.

Once you land the sorority of your dreams, you can shop Greek U for some great merchandise to show off your Greek letters! You can even customize something for yourself.
]]>College is a time of new beginnings and new acquaintances. But there is one thing that can make your college career that much more special: a sorority.
If you've been thinking about the best way to maximize your time at school, then you might be wondering: "Which sorority should I join?" We hope to help you answer that all-important question.
If you're wondering how to choose the right sorority, we'll take you through all the questions and musings you should contemplate in your quest for a sorority. These tips are guaranteed to help you narrow down your choices and join a sisterhood that you won't just like but will love.
Going to college for the first time is a messy experience full of excitement, catastrophes and new, adult affairs. Trying to navigate all of these things on your own can be challenging, but having support can make your college experience less daunting. A sorority helps students acquaint themselves with the college. They also are fun ways to take a stand in society or create charitable events to help the community.
A sorority is more than an event committee. The girls in each chapter will become your lifelong friends. You'll spend free evenings together, work towards the group's mission and maybe even live in the same house.
As such, these groups form lasting bonds that aid students during some of the toughest years of their lives, not only in college, but sometimes beyond as well. The other members of the sorority are going through the same or similar experiences as you are, so you'll always have someone to talk to or receive advice from.
Which sorority is the best for me? To answer this, you need to be thorough. Before arriving at the university, check for recruitment dates and register for the event. It is at recruitment that you'll meet the college's sororities and garner your first impressions of each. You may have to pay a registration fee.
This is the start of your process, but it's far from the last step in determining which sorority is right for you.
Before attending the recruitment event, your first job will be to undertake some preliminary research. Which sororities impress you online?
Find the university's list of Greek organizations and research each sorority. Each has a national website that can be easily accessed online. Take the time to do this. Ask yourself the following questions:
Don't let yourself get caught up in this stage. View it as a way to get acquainted with the different sororities so that when you meet them, you'll have some idea about each. The idea is to get your toes wet and gather information; don't allow any restrictions here.
After going to the recruitment event, make a list of all the groups that struck you as interesting. But don't make your decision yet; sororities pull out all the stops for rush week, so it's easy to become bedazzled by a group that might not be the perfect match.
Hopefully, you were introduced to lots of new faces during rush week. Take advantage of it. Ask members questions about their sorority or speak to them in general about their interests.
One of the biggest factors in finding the right organization is personality. You want to be around like-minded people. Consider these thoughts:
Like making a new friend, meeting sorority members involves balancing your gut instincts with logical perspectives.
If you want a great inside perspective about a particular sorority, pay attention to how members treat each other when you're introduced to groups.
Do they act like friends or work colleagues? This can clue you in and give you an idea of how you would fit within the group. If you're looking for friends, the former is best, but if you're searching for a way to add to your resume and create connections that will benefit you in the future, you might prefer the latter.
Of course, keep in mind that sororities are like families. It's impossible for every member to love every other member. However, your comfort level is of utmost importance, and you want to choose a sorority that makes you feel good rather than not.
Ask what events are lined up for the semester and take these into consideration. Events are an excellent way to see if you would enjoy partaking in a sorority. They also reflect the group's mission statement and core values, giving you a better idea of whether you'd enjoy becoming a member.
Further, the events will demonstrate what you can take from the sorority. What leadership skills would you like to enhance or what causes would you like to pursue?
Knowing how events can help you and the community is a determining factor when choosing a sorority.
Some sororities are stricter than others. Ask members what is expected of them and push for details.
Some organizations, for example, may request fees if you're absent from a meeting or event. Others expect members to partake in a certain number of activities within a semester.
Before joining a group, it's vital you know exactly what you are getting into. Your sorority won't be your only focus. You'll also have classes to attend. Make sure you have the time and energy to take on both responsibilities so that you can be successful in your college career.
Sororities have dues. And they are expensive. This is something else you'll need to consider when asking, "What sorority should I join?"
The average cost of going Greek is $1,280 per semester for newbies and $605 for everyone else. Those uniforms don't make themselves (although you will make a lot of costumes), and the group collectively pays for Chapter Rooms.
Expect monthly or end-of-semester dues and initiation costs.
While this may seem like a huge turnoff, you'll make your money back. The networking you achieve through a sorority can pay for itself later in life.
If you want to live with your Chapter (and even if you don't), it's helpful to see if you can imagine yourself living in the sorority's house and enjoying it.
If not, politely bow out. If yes, keep it on your list as you narrow down your choices.
Don't be afraid to ask other students what they know about a group. This is an excellent way to receive unbiased information that only campus students would have.
Additionally, request to meet with one or two members from a sorority you're particularly interested in. Members are more than happy to reach out and answer your questions, and a one-on-one meeting can provide insights rush week won't.
Finally, if you are wondering how to know if a sorority is right for you, don't join a sorority just because your friend has.
Becoming a member doesn't mean you snub the friends you already have, and what may work for your bestie might not work for you. Furthermore, you might not get accepted into the same organization, so it's never a good idea to bank on this.
Knowing how to choose a sorority will save you a ton of time and anxiety when you go to school. Making the right choice has lasting impacts on your character, college experience and career. Your focus while at school is to get a good education, but what is college without a little fun?

]]>Are are 8 budgeting tips for college students that you should know about before moving into your dorm room on day one.
The first thing you always want to do is create a spending budget for yourself. Most colleges tell you straight up how much room and board costs, but that's not the only expenses you will be faced with.
This includes any food that's not part of your meal plan, school supplies, books, entertainment, even doing the laundry. Most colleges offer free laundry facilities but there are cases where they don't.
Create a basic layout of your budget based on your cash flow per semester/week if you have a part-time job or doing work study.
Figure up just how much you can really spend on these items. Don't go overboard. If you can buy a pack of one dollar pencils, don't spring on the three dollar ones just for their brand name.
After you've built your budget it's time to track all the spending you do on these items.
Look at all the money you typically spend in one month and see where all of your cash is going. Check all of your debit, and credit cards, bank info, everything. You will be surprised at how much you spend on things that aren't necessary.
Tracking your spending and budgeting sets invisible guidelines for you.
It's rare that you head off to college with a complete trust prepared for you. Sometimes it's inevitable that you have to take out gross college loans.
The number of loans you take out should be in the same realm as the expected pay off of the job field you're expecting to go into after graduation. Any loans you take out should also be for school and nothing but.
Taking out a loan so you can live an extravagant college lifestyle might seem like a great idea now, but it won't be worth it in the end.
More often than not, many establishments around your college campus will offer discounts for students. Don't be afraid to flash that student idea wherever you go.
We understand that college food can be really gross. They put you in a false sense of security by having amazing food during orientation and then when you actually start, the food punches you in the face.
If you must go out to a restaurant to avoid a rather tasteless cafeteria meal, there's nothing wrong with that, but chose one that offers you a student discount. If you really need that morning coffee, student discount. This can even go further with clothing stores and hole in the wall bookstores.
You'll be surprised about how much being a student can save you at establishments around town.
We can all agree that buying books for the school bookstore can be ridiculous. These bookstores know they have a monopoly. It's hard to physically get books quickly when you buy online.
To avoid this extra price tag, you can rent them from the college bookstore, or get them used.
If getting them from the college bookstore is still too pricey after this, there are many online resources that you can hit up to find great deals on used books.
This is budgeting tips for college students 101.
Some colleges will actually offer you a free gym membership as part of your tuition either on campus or off. If your college doesn't offer this service, don't splurge and do it for yourself.
These gym memberships can get really costly after a long period of time. Instead of springing for it, you can always join college athletic clubs. Some dorm buildings have fitness programs that everyone who lives in the building can go to.
There are also special activities like Zumba, classes, and cross-fit that some colleges offer for fun. If you actively seek out these programs there will always be a method for you to get a good workout in.
This is a fairly simple budgeting tip for college students that seems small, but like the gym membership, seriously builds up over time.
Instead of springing for that expensive 5 dollar coffee at Starbucks every morning that you need a caffeine fix, make your own.
It's a lot cheaper in the long run to buy a coffee pot, coffee, cream, sugar, and filters.
Credit card companies go after college students like a ravenous man-eating monster.
You have to seriously watch out with these guys. A lot of naive freshmen can fall victim to credit card companies. This is mainly because, if you're uninformed it sounds like free money.
If you want to get a credit card, sit down with your parents and shop around for ones that are credible.
If you follow these 8 budgeting tips for college students, you will come out of college with a lot less debt gathered up. Only spend money on the essentials and live as cheaply but comfortably as you can.
Surviving your freshman year of college is difficult even without all the loans, and credit card sharks. We have a few tips to help you get through it.

The best way to boost your confidence with your college outfits is to go with something crisp and new. You'll know it fits great, is in style and doesn't have any rips or stains. College is also a great time to reinvent your style, so if you want to break out of old habits, now is the perfect time to do it. Let's face it, there's no better way to face a new school, new students, and new teachers, than with a brand-new outfit. College is your time to get a fresh start - and that begins with your clothes.
Your first day of school will probably be hot. You may be thinking a skirt would be a great way to look cute and classy. However, the last thing you want to worry about is a wardrobe malfunction on your first day. As tempting as it may be to put on a cute skirt for your first day of classes, resist the urge and go with something a little more functional instead. You're going to spend the day walking across campus from class to class and you might even have to climb a flight or two of stairs. You may even get lost and end up wandering around. If it's a windy day, you'll risk the wind blowing your skirt up. Since buildings and trees can block the wind, you may find that your route on some days is less windy than others. Moving forward you can feel confident wearing skirts, but you should hold off until you learn how windy your campus gets.
So, you finally waved goodbye to mom and dad - freedom! This is the first time in your life you don't have your parents watching your every move. If your parents were strict on what you wore, you may feel tempted to wear a sexy first day of college outfit. However, we suggest keeping it classy. Save the crop tops and teeny tiny booty shorts for the parties. Instead, opt for shorts that cover your butt and a short-sleeve shirt. Cropped pants, jeans and sweaters are also acceptable choices for building a cute outfit.
It's important to remember that college has a relaxed atmosphere. You'll probably see students walking to class in sweats or pajama pants by day two. When deciding how to dress in college, you want to look good without looking like you're trying too hard. If you show up to your first day with heels or a formal shirt, you'll be overdoing it. Try to find a happy medium, like jeans and a basic top. You'll be comfortable and rocking the relaxed college-girl look. But keep those formal outfits in your closet! You'll need them when choosing something to wear to sorority recruitment events. Likewise, don't go too casual on your first day - save the pajamas for day two.
Do you have the perfect outfit of basics picked out for your first day of classes? It may look a little too boring for you. After all, you want people to notice you, right? Well, deciding how to accessorize your outfit is an important part in deciding what to wear to college. You'll want to take your relaxed outfit up a notch by pairing it with some jewelry or maybe a hat. Long necklaces or lacy bralettes go great with loose V-neck shirts, while simple bracelets can be a great addition to any outfit. It'll make you look a little nicer without going too fancy.
Are you a fashionista who's always up on the latest trends? You can incorporate this into your first day of college outfit. But, remember, college is all about looking relaxed. You don't want to show up looking like you came straight off the runway. Instead, choose one major trend that you love. Find a way to incorporate it into your first day of school outfits in a way that looks great and youthful. There are plenty of ways to mix high fashion into a college girl's outfit. Just be creative! No outfit is complete without the right shoes! However, your footwear is extra important on your first day of college. You'll be doing a lot of walking on your first day, so stick with something comfortable. Those brand-new flats may be calling your name, but you won't want blisters distracting you while you try to find your way to Algebra 101. Your first day of college is not a great time to put on a brand-new pair of shoes since they won't be broken in yet. Sandals are a great choice. They are casual, comfortable, and stylish. Plus, they go with most cute college outfits. It's the perfect way to bring your outfit together.
To complete your perfect first day of college outfit, opt for simple hair and makeup. Again, you don't want to look like you're trying too hard. Go for loose curls or beach waves to create a fun, flirty and flawless look that pairs well with college fashion. When it comes to makeup, save the heavy eyeliner and daring eyeshadow for your future girls' night outs. Instead, opt for a warm and subtle everyday makeup routine.
Lockers aren't a thing on most college campuses, so you'll need to carry everything you need for class with you. Form and function are equally important in your backpack selection. Your backpack will round out your cute college outfits for the next four years, so you'll want to pay attention to which one you buy. If you want to look more sophisticated, consider getting something neutral. It'll let your clothes be the focal point, and it won't clash with your outfits. If you want something fun, go for a bright color or exciting print. Most importantly, look for one that is sturdy and has enough room for your textbooks!

Jungle/Safari/Swamp
Jungle sorority formal themes are some of our most popular. Fill the room with potted trees; add greenery on the ceiling. Put some stuffed jungle animals in the trees and accent with animal prints. When designing a jungle themed party, add animals like monkeys, chameleons, snakes, tigers, frogs, leopards and parrots to drive home the theme. Can you rig up a Jeep or Land Rover that looks like it is coming out of the wall for guests to sit in and have a picture? This may be easier outside. Animal crackers, and pretzels with a tag that says "Twigs," make great table snacks. Float rubber duckies shaped like jungle animals in the punch bowl. Encourage safari hats and old-fashioned safari dresses and jodhpurs. A scavenger hunt or a prize for a hidden item in the foliage always helps guests get in the mood.
Anchor's Away/Pirate
Pirate-themed parties are fun because there are so many costume possibilities. Your sorority sisters and your guests will really get into this theme. Set out items like ships wheels, anchors, spyglasses and life preservers. Use pallets (may need to add boards or modify for safety) to make a ship's deck. Rum and Cokes make perfect theme drinks for this event. Serve Goldfish crackers or candy that comes wrapped in gold paper as table snacks. Obviously, having guests dress in a pirate-y way while still looking formal is ideal. Set up a photo booth with eye patches, hats, toy pistols and scimitars, and pirate flags. Play any fishing type of game, and make the loser walk the plank. You can also focus on the Navy aspect of this theme instead. Make the theme specific by assigning a title (Ensign, Lieutenant, Captain) to every guest as they come in.
Vegas
Vegas is all about the glitz and glamour! Use lots of glitter in your decor and plenty of gold! Black-tie is perfect for a Vegas-themed formal night. Decks of cards are cheap, and gluing them together in a fan makes an easy table decoration. Poker chips go great in the center of the table. Make a cheeseball that looks like a pair of dice, or use only red and black food, with hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds as garnishes. Check with campus rules about gambling. Set up games like poker, blackjack and other casino games. If gambling isn't allowed, find out if using just chips to place bets (no monetary value), or even using candy pieces, would work. As a bonus, you can bring out your favorite sorority formal dresses for Vegas night.
Lumberjack
You might not associate lumberjacks with formal parties, but it's totally doable. Big logs might be hard to bring in, but you could hold this event outside to make it easier. In fact, this is the perfect theme for an outdoor party. Use pretend axes and old-timey logging tools like chains and hoists around the room. Buffalo plaid table runners would work break, and silhouette pictures of bears and pine trees help get guests in the mood. Try using pinecones, too. Bacon skewers make perfect appetizers; you can also do cake pops decorated like bears. Any kind of plaid is a perfect accent for a dress at this event. Build a giant size Jenga game out of 2x4s. Any strong man competition would be fun.
Beach/Cruise/Mermaid/Baywatch/Shipwreck
Cruising is always luxurious, and there's no shortage of formal options when you start thinking about a high-seas party adventure. Use palm trees and big beach scene posters to make it more festive. Try turning up the heat in the room, especially if this is happening in the winter! A centerpiece with sand and seashells is perfect for this event, or a fishbowl with real goldfish swimming. Coconuts, palm leaves and tiny boats all add to the ambiance. Serve drinks with little umbrellas or extra fruit garnish to help guests feel they are in the Caribbean. Hire a coffee cart to serve made-to-order drinks in Starbucks cups! Waiters and waitresses could dress as lifeguards, with red swimsuits and whistles. Play squirt gun tag. Set up several stations of sand for a sandcastle building competition. (This can be a tabletop competition.)
NFL
No fall party theme list would be complete without at least one football-related option. Guests enter through a team tunnel, with a football announcer to introduce them. Set up a fog machine! Assign each table a team name and decorate to match. Tailgate food is a must for this event. Have little appetizers like wings (cut them and use toothpicks so dresses don't get messy), mini sliders, etc. Waiters and waitresses wear referee garb. For a mixer between fraternities and sororities, have the guys bring NFL hats or jerseys. Have the girls choose one, then pair up with the guy whose hat or jersey they chose. Set up tailgate toss games around the room with NFL team insignia. This is a lot harder to play in formal dresses! A photo booth with helmets, jerseys, hats, footballs and big foam hands is fun.
Toga or Black and White Party
Go ahead and be a little cliché by planning a toga or black and white party. This go-to theme is perfect for fall nights because it's flexible and fun. As long as it's white, any food fits with the theme, including white cake, whitefish if serving a plated dinner, or mashed potatoes. The sky's the limit! Everyone wears white to this party. Gather black and white photos of guests when they were little (you can Photoshop them to change them to black and white) and have guests guess who is who.
Army
Does your school have an ROTC program or is it located near an army base? Either way, an Army-themed formal is always a lot of fun. Make signs that say "(name of your sorority) Strong" with a big star, and use Army colors. Camouflage is a great choice, too. Sandbag walls or big targets are perfect; cut out a helicopter silhouette to hang on the wall. Anything with a label that says "MRE: Meals Ready to Eat" works for this theme, especially if you hang a "Mess Hall" sign. Set up little green Army men and try target shooting at them with foam dart guns.
Country
Rustic or country-themed formal events are very trendy right now, and you can borrow this theme for your sorority's next formal. Use burlap table runners and twinkle lights for decor. For centerpieces, use a slice from a tree trunk with candles on top. A buffet is an easy way to serve homestyle favorites like roast beef and mashed potatoes. For something more formal, have it plated, or make traditional comfort food into appetizers. Guests can come in cowboy hats and boots. Get small table games like the peg game. Hire a square dance caller to give a different vibe to the dancing part of the evening. Square dancing comes with instruction, so everyone can participate.
U.S.A.
Put your patriotism on full display and have a U.S.A.-themed formal party around the elections. Flags are ideal for this party, or anything that is red, white and blue. Picnic food can turn into finger food easily. Stick little flags in deviled eggs. Potato salad and macaroni salad can easily fit in small appetizer cups and sandwiches make great mini sliders. Try specifying that guests can only wear red, blue and white or silver dresses or suits. If you can get permission, why not have a fireworks show at the end of the night?
