Delta Chi

Delta Chi is a fraternity with a rich history. Founded on October 13, 1890 at Cornell University, the group was originally intended for law students. However, in 1922, DX became a social fraternity, allowing members to join from all areas of study. The group has now initiated over 116,000 members across 110 chapters and colonies. There are also 34 active alumni chapters.

The History of Delta Chi

Delta Chi was founded on the campus of Cornell University, originally as a fraternity designed to support and uplift a small group of the university’s law students. In 1922, however, the fraternity did away with the requirement that its members be studying law. Today, Delta Chi maintains more than 137 undergraduate chapters, 29 alumni chapters, and more than 112,000 active collegiate members. Its official flower is the white carnation, while its colors are red and buff.

Known for its commitment to honor, loyalty and good works, the fraternity’s stated mission is to “promote friendship, develop character, advance justice, and assist in the acquisition of a sound education.” In 2006, the fraternity established the V Foundation, a philanthropy designed to establish grants and raise funds for various causes.

Over the years, the fraternity has graduated many notable members, including Larry Craig, former U.S. Senator, Tim Crown, Founder of Insight Enterprises, George Tiller, notable Physician, Carey Cavanaugh, Director of Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.

Today, Delta Chi is a charter member of the NIC, or North-American Interfraternity Conference. Delta Chi has its headquarters on Church Street in Iowa City.
