The History of Sigma Phi Epsilon
Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded in Virginia, and maintains its headquarters in Richmond. The fraternity’s three foundational principles are virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. These three principles guide all the fraternity’s activities and goals, and help instill a sense of leadership and commitment in its members.
One of the largest social fraternities based on undergraduate enrollment, Sigma Phi Epsilon was also the first fraternity in the North-American Interfraternity Conference to accept openly transgender members.
The fraternity’s colors are royal purple and dark red, and the official symbol is the golden heart. Throughout the years, Sigma Phi Epsilon has graduated several notable members, including John Kotter, a professor at Harvard’s Business School, Tom Hicks, buyout billionaire, Michael Pocalyko, CEO of Monticello Capital, and R. David Thomas, Founder & Former CEO of Wendy’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers.
