Gamma Phi Beta History

Gamma Phi Beta was founded November 11, 1874 on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Established by four pioneering women, Gamma Phi Beta currently has its headquarters in Centennial, Colorado, and boasts upwards of 200,000 initiated members and more than 155 alumnae groups throughout Canada and the U.S.

Dedicated to helping its members aspire to “the highest type of womanhood,” Gamma Phi Beta sought to prove, in its early days, that women could do anything men could do. Today, the sorority works hard to support philanthropic and community service efforts throughout the country.

Gamma Phi Beta’s official causes include Building Strong Girls, Camp Fire, and Girl Guides of Canada. The sorority has donated upwards of $400,000 to Camp Fire USA since 2001 and continues to work on a local level to raise money for important causes and offer community service.
