5 Tips for Having the Best Sorority Recruitment Week

There are over nine million members in sororities and fraternities all over the United States.

If you're looking to join in the tradition, you're going to have to make it through sorority recruitment week. Keep reading for tips to help you stand out from the crowd and become one of the sisters.

What is Recruitment Week?

Sorority recruitment week, or rush week, is when each organization hosts promising new members.

There are several rounds that occur during recruitment week, each one designed to give potential members a glimpse of each organization. They're also to provide the sisters with an idea of what the interviewees are like.

Do Your Research

Just like any big decision, research is a must.

You'll need to research things such as how to get into a sorority and which sorority you think will be the right fit for you. You'll also want to make sure you know enough about your favorites to show them you're dedicated to getting in.

How to Dress for Sorority Recruitment Week

Recruitment week should be about more than what you're wearing, but just like in a job interview, first impressions mean everything.

How you choose to dress will depend on the day of the week. Each event might call for something different. For instance, Open House day may call for something more on the casual side while House Tours day might call for a more dressy casual look.

On Preference Night, you should probably pick out a dress or dress pants and nice blouse because you want to look presentable since this is a semi-formal event.

Pay Attention and Take Notes

It might not seem like such a big deal, but you'll be glad you took notes by the time it's all over with. Be sure to pay attention closely and take detailed notes that will help you distinguish organizations from each other.

You're going to meet a lot of people, and faces are going to start blurring after a while, but it's going to be very important for you to listen closely and make an effort to remember someone's name when they tell you.

Be Conversational

Recruiters will be asking you a lot of questions about yourself, and you'll no doubt be so nervous you won't know what to ask in return.

But some of the things they could be looking for during these Q and A sessions is to see if you're going to be conversational enough to fit in well with other sisters. They want to get a feel for your personality, so be sure and engage.

Keep it Genuine

It's been said a million times before, but that doesn't make it any less critical: Be yourself.

Recruiters are looking for the best fit, just as you're looking for the best place to fit into. That means anything less than genuine is going to leave you both without a perfect match.
