The lifelong bonds you form, the communities you serve, and the invaluable lessons you learn are all part of an unforgettable Greek organization experience. Joining a brotherhood or sisterhood is an honor and a privilege, and with it comes social awareness and responsibility. Each week we are going to be featuring an essay written by a fraternity/sorority member to highlight how Greek life has had a positive impact.
Representing an Entire Group
As a freshman going through recruitment, I never knew my sorority would have impacted my life in such a positive way as much as it has. I am a member of the Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Phi at Kent State University and I could not be more proud to represent such an amazing organization. I can honestly say that joining Alpha Phi has been the best decision I have ever made. I have grown as an individual, a leader, a mentor, and a friend. I have gained unbreakable bonds and memories that I am certain will last a lifetime. I have met my best friends, sisters, roommates, and future bridesmaids, and I have Alpha Phi to thank for that. For the past two years, I have held positions on our executive board. During my junior year I was the Director of Finance. This year, I am truly proud to say that I am the Chapter President of Alpha Phi. Being the president of an organization of 200 amazing, beautiful, inspiring young women has been absolutely incredible. Feeling so valued as a person has given me the confidence and courage to reach for my dreams and believe that anything is possible. Having the ability to stand as a mentor and have such a strong impact on the younger members and their experience in the chapter, and at Kent State University, has been so rewarding. As the president, I love being able to inspire members to step outside of their comfort zone and watch them accomplish their goals. I truly would not trade this experience for anything.Outside of my leadership experience, joining a sorority has made me realize that you not only represent yourself, but you represent an entire group of women as a whole. Every decision I make is for the best benefit of the chapter. My sorority has also had an impact on my academics and career coals. My sisters have given me the support and encouragement I needed during college. As a Biochemistry/Pre-pharmacy major, sometimes times the stress of my classes and schoolwork was overwhelming. Throughout the entire process, my sisters were there for me to help me achieve my goals. I am proud to say that next fall, I will be attending the College of Pharmacy at North East Ohio Medical University to obtain my Pharm D. This opportunity would not be possible without my sisters pushing me to be the best version of myself, and the constant support. The best memories and experiences I’ve had in college all involve my sorority and the women in it. Living in our chapter house and having 3 a.m. dance parties are the moments I will never forget. Alpha Phi has been so much more than a sorority to me; it has been an experience of a lifetime. I am honored to have had the opportunity to experience a sisterhood like this and truly wish everyone could find their home just like I found mine.
