Sigma Delta Tau History

Sigma Delta Tau was founded March 25, 1917 in Ithaca, New York. Today, the sorority maintains 60,000 members and 100 chapters. Represented by the torch, Sigma Delta Tau was founded on the ideals of uplifting women, being inclusive to all, and giving back to the communities around it.

Active in philanthropy and fundraising, Sigma Delta Tau’s official causes include Prevent Child Abuse America, which works to support and protect children in abusive environments, and Jewish Women International. Sigma Delta Tau has also partnered with cosmetics company OPI to develop and sell purple nail polish in October to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Notable Alumnae include Heather Dubrow, a star on the reality show The Real Housewives of Orange County, Joyce Brothers, a notable writer and TV personality, Meredith Deane, a well-known actress, and Flo Steinberg, a publisher.
