Aren't you sick and tired of Greek life getting a bad rap?
Yeah, us too.
But wait -
There are many benefits of Greek life - joining a sorority or fraternity -Â but we compiled a list of our most important ones!
We're here to show you that Greek life can improve your college experience, and also will improve your future!
Being in a sorority or fraternity is priceless. You will probably meet your future bridesmaids, become more confident in yourself, and find your niche, among so many other things!
While you're in college, being in a sorority or fraternity makes your college seem way less huge. Â You are no longer daunted by the amount of students, or by trying to find your group of friends. Greek life makes that so much easier.
Hopefully you find a
big little sis that you love (and will spoil, duh!) and he/she becomes your best friend for life! Not to mention all of the other friends you'll make from your organization.
Here are our top reasons why Greek Life will benefit you, even after college.
1. Networking Opportunities
If you are in a sorority or fraternity, Greek life is usually how you meet your friends in college. Â You'll meet tons of people at the beginning of your college career when you join your sorority, otherwise known as finding your "niche".
This really helped me transition from high school to college, because I went to a really large school (SDSU).
Without my sorority, I would have felt so small in a sea of thousands of other students. It would have been harder to make friends right away!
When I rushed
Alpha Phi, I automatically had this group of people that had my back and that had the same goal as me: to make college the best it could possibly be!
You automatically have this circle that you are a part of, and the people in the Greek Life system can help you get jobs and meet other people that could be beneficial to you in the future.
Think about it: you have this giant web of new friends, without even having to try (that hard)! Â After college, this will become invaluable.
This is probably one of my favorite benefits of Greek life because knowing people from the Greek system has gotten me every job I've had so far. Powerful!
Your friend could have a friend who knows someone who could get you your dream job (the circle of life, people).

2. Life-long Friends
Another one of the benefits of Greek life is that you can meet all of your life-long best friends! You get some built-in best friends that you get to live in a giant house with, help run an organization with, and create some very fun, memorable experiences.
We can also bet you will get some bridesmaids or groomsmen out of it.
I know some of my favorite memories are the ones from college with my sorority sisters.
Organizing Red Dress Gala, getting a house with my best friends, and just lounging around in our
sorority clothes in the chapter house are among some of my best memories.
I still live with my best friend, 3 years after graduating college! It's so much fun to relive those memories with her.
And - you guessed it!
She will definitely be in my wedding (when that time comes) standing by my side! Without our sorority, we definitely would not have gotten so close.

3. Conversations and Mastering Small Talk
I cannot stress this one enough!
Going through recruitment is an interesting experience to say the least. Â One of the benefits is learning how to make conversation out of, well, nothing.

You know that you don't want to be asking girls the same old, boring questions, so you get creative.
You will learn to ask questions OTHER than "What's your major?" and "Where are you from?"
This is a great skill to have when you go out into the real world. It will make job interviews a breeze, and it makes you seem way confident.
Not to mention, you will actually get to know the person you're talking to, and won't have to deal with any of that small talk business.
It makes you seem way more personable, and like you genuinely care about what that person says!
Can you tell how much I dislike small talk?!
In fact, companies will actually recruit sorority girls for sales jobs because they know how personable they are!
Got that in the bag, don't you?!
4. Organization/Time Management Skills
When you have a chapter meeting at 7, 2 exams tomorrow, and have to meet with your Marketing group at 5, you really learn how to manage your time.
It also helps your organizational skills.
This skill is invaluable, because you will most likely be busy for the rest of your life.
What with balancing a full-time career, carving out time to see your college friends, and everything in between!
What an excellent skill to have in your repertoire!
I know I always find myself struggling to be the most productive I can be and manage my time in an organized fashion.
Pro tip: I put everything - and I mean everything, down to "make breakfast" - in my phone's Google Calendar! This helps me to stay super organized and plan out when I'm going to do daily tasks, like the gym for example.
I learned this when I trying to balance study sessions with an internship my senior year of college!
Welcome to life after college; you will need some solid multi-tasking abilities.

5. Resume Builders
Yes, being on Exec is something you can put on your resume! It shows that you take initiative, are organized, and are a leader.
This is a great opportunity to use your time in a sorority as part of your work experience, especially when your crazy semester load doesn't allow time for a job.
And no worries if you aren't on Exec! Your sister may be able to get you an internship at the company she interned for! Companies often love sorority girls, because they know they are outgoing and likable.
You can also put on your resume all of your volunteering experience for your sorority's philanthropy. Â And more often than not, you will be volunteering for the same organization, multiple times a year. This is great for your resume!
I know we all wish we could get paid for our other talents.
