No college experience is complete without joining a sorority or fraternity.

Sororities have been a part of university life for hundreds of years. When you join one, you're not just a part of a bunch - you're also family. Each sorority has its own ways of recruiting new members and rules they must follow.

If you're starting college soon and are considering pledging, this guide will help you narrow down your choice.

Read on to find out what the best sororities in the US are and which you should join.

Best Sororities in the US

There are over 6000 sororities throughout the US with international chapters around the world.

They all have different values and philanthropic activities, so when you choose, make sure their vision aligns with your own.

Kappa Kappa Gamma

Kappa Kappa Gamma is among the top sororities in the country due to its good reputation, high enrollment numbers, and famous alumni.

It was founded in 1870 at Monmouth College in Illinois. Today, KKG has over 260,000 members and 140 chapters in the US and Canada.

Their main mission is to encourage women to be leaders in any area of their lives. Their philanthropy partner is 'Reading is Fundamental'.

Though without a formal motto, KKG prides itself on its members forming strong friendships that last way beyond college.

Delta Delta Delta (Tri-Delta)

Tri-Delta was founded in 1888 at Boston University in Massachusets. With 141 chapters and over 210,000 members, this sorority is among the most charitable in the country.

They support the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital as their national philanthropy and their main purpose is to "assist its members in every possible way".

Tri-Delta also offers emergency assistance programs, scholarships, and educational grants to its members.

Alpha Delta Pi

Alpha Delta Pi is a college sorority founded in 1851 in Macon, GA. It was the first secret society for women and at the time, it was known as the Adelphean Society.

Today, the sorority has 130 chapters and their national philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Their motto is "We Live for Each Other" and their founding values are 'friendship' and 'sincerity'.

Joining a Sorority

There are as many recruiting practices as there are sororities out there. Before you pledge for a certain sorority, make sure you study their values, requirements, activities and what they have to offer.

Attend information sessions, ask questions and beware of hazing. Although banned, it can still be a part of the recruitment process happening undercover.

While not easy, joining a sorority may be the best thing that's ever happened to you. You'll form friendships, learn to be a team player, but also a leader. These are all essential skills that you'll use in real life after college.
